24 Apr - Al Fornetto, Doubleview

Last Friday night, we had dinner out at Doubleview for Aunt Jen's birthday. Whilst waiting for everyone else to arrive, I ordered an Iced Coffee. Once all mixed in, it was pretty decent.

For starters, I went for the soup of the day, which was Pumpkin Soup. The pumpkin was sweet and the soup consistency was just about right. The serving size was huge and was accompanied with two pieces of bread.

I had the Saltimbocca for mains which consisted of thin veal pan fried with white wine and cream. The wine came through in the sauce and was served with wedges and a little greens. It wasn't bad, the veal was tender enough and the sauce was creamy and "winey".

CB and I shared dessert and it was a nut sundae with nuts. The vanilla icecream was good, quite vanillary and creamy texture. The nuts were OK.

Overall, I didn't mind the food and the service was quite good. Water bottles were always refreshed and empty food plates were cleared quickly.

15 Apr - Jimmy Deans Diner, Midland

Last night was dinner at Jimmy Deans with CB's family for some birthdays. Feeling like some "typical" American chow, I went for the "King of All Burgers", beer chips and a honeycomb milkshake.

The burger and chips was quite good, rivalling Fast Eddy's Cop-the-Lot but being slightly cheaper. The beer chips were fresh and crunchy too, and were thoroughly enjoyed after a light sprinkle of salt and pepper.

I ordered a honeycomb shake, however I ended up with CB's mango shake, which wasn't very mango-ey. When the shakes came to the table, it was presented as a banana shake and a mango shake ... service was a FAIL.

One meal wasn't taken down correctly on the ticket and therefore missed, when the birthday cake was served, no knife to cut the cake was given. The staff come round and clap but they weren't the most enthused bunch (this is what Jimmy Deans is known for, but it was a disappointment!).

11 Apr - Golden King BBQ Express, Morley

CB and I were in Morley and hungry just before 10AM. With the Cantonese BBQ place in Morley opening at 10, it was an easy choice for an early lunch. Whilst CB went for duck noodles, I went for my usual trio of meats... (char siu, roast pork and roast duck). Packed on the side was a load of chilli oil.. yum!
