28 Dec - Lobster Shack, Cervantes

CB and I went for a drive up the Indian Ocean drive today and stopped by Cervantes for lunch at the Lobster Shack. We ordered half a lobster with chips and slaw and a serve of fish and chips.

The lobster was cooked well. It had a burnt oil wok hei type flavour which I think came from grilling the shell. Some of this flavour was also imparted into the chips resting below which made them extra tasty.

The fish, which was mackerel, was nice and crisp. Not overly strongly flavoured which is what I was expecting from a mackerel.

The chips in both dishes were done well. After polishing off both baskets of all edible food, it felt like just the right amount.

27 Dec - Rustique Swan Valley, Henley Brook

The new business at the Madhatters location. I had the Rustique burger with added bacon after CB's chicken burger came with bacon.

Even with the bacon, there was not enough seasoning. The meat patty to me needed salt. I didn't think to add some from the shaker at the time and just ploughed through.

21 Dec - Kent Street Cafe, Rockingham

Another work lunch, this time I had to pay for my own meal. I opted for the special which was some fried chicken, on a fluffy potato thingy and rocket salad with maple dressing.

It was too sweet for me. I was hoping for the dressing to still be sharp with a slight taste of maple syrup but to me it was overpowered.

15 Dec - Brotzeit German Food and Bier, Baldivis

An end of year work lunch of pork knuckle, half a litre of cider and a sticky date pudding.

The crackling in the knuckle was good. Nice and crisp, not chewy. By the end though, I was feeling a bit gross. The meat was bland until the jus was poured over.

The sticky date was OK, nothing to rave about.
