18 Feb - Kailis Bros Fish Market and Cafe

Today we went to Kailis in Leederville for ATAB's birthday.

CB and I shared starters. It was Octopus Le Grec. The octopus was wonderfully soft, the tastes were OK, and the funnel which was included was superb.

For mains, I decided to have the NZ Flounder. It was a beautifully grilled fish, with minimal bones. The salad was also good. I don't think I'd have it again though, there are other things I'd like to try on the menu.

17th Feb - Kailis Fishmarket Cafe

Today, CB and I decided to go to Fremantle and have a look at the markets. For lunch, we decided upon fish and chips and chose Kailis instead of the usual Cicerellos. We shared a seafood platter which includes fish, squid rings, prawns, scallops, chilli mussels, chips and salad.

The chips weren't that The chilli mussels were more tomato mussels, but I guess it was catered for western tastes. Apart from that, the seafood was actually pretty good.

14 Feb - Shimizu

Today I bought my lunch at Harbour Town and decided that Japanese was the way to go. When I got there, I ordered my usual, the tori karaage.

Overall, the meal was pretty decent... the chicken was slightly overdone to me, but was still more than edible. The salad was good with its tangy dressing and there was enough rice to satisfy my gut (even though I could of eaten more! heheh)

10 Feb - McDonalds & Mille Cafe

Today involved helping a friend, Gary, move into his new place. CB and I started off the day with some breakfast at Maccas. I had a Sausage & Egg meal with a coffee shake. Overall, the muffin was OK, certainly wasn't that fresh. I forgot to take a picture as I was hungry and practically wolfed it down.

After helping Gary move, we decided to have lunch at Mille Cafe in Inglewood. Here I had an Iced Coffee, Lemon Marinated Chicken Breast and shared some wedges with aioli with CB.

Overall the chicken wasn't too bad. The description of the menu item was "wrapped in bacon, filled with camembert, tiger prawns and asparagus, served on a spring vegetable and sweet potato crush with citrus salsa". The verdict? The citrus was a little weird, but the vegetable and sweet potato mash (or crush as they call it) wasn't too bad. The chicken was nice but didn't really get any gooeyness or cheesiness from the camembert.

3 Feb - Wagamamas

Today, CB and I decided to eat lunch out, even though it was going to be a 40 degree day. The destination was Wagamamas in Subiaco. We have been there before, and I wasn't too impressed with my first experience, but decided to give it a try after a workmate said to try the Chilli Squid. CB and I shared the following dishes:

Sweet Potato Kusabi. Thin sweet potato chips with a wasabi mayonaise. These chips were sweet and crunchy and the wasabi mayo had a little zing with a bit of tang. Overall quite good and I'd have it again.
Chilli Squid. Served with a lime dipping sauce. The squid was OK .. it was cooked tender (better than overdone) but the sauce left a little to be desired. It was sweet and not sour as I was expecting from a lime sauce. I probably wouldn't try this one again...

Teriyaki Chicken. The little side salads served with both mains were delicious. The dressing was sour and tangy and the lettuce was fresh and colourful. The teriyaki sauce was on the sweet side, whilst the chicken was a bit overdone and dry. I would probably pass on this one too as it was too sweet for me.
Chicken Katsu Curry. This was definitely the better of the two mains and was eaten quickly! Crispy deep fried chicken with rice, curry sauce and a little salad. The sauce was to western tastes (not hot at all), but was still good. I'd give this another try.
And lastly, Banana Katsu with Coconut Icecream. This was very nice, the banana was just like a fritter, except crumbed instead of battered. The coconut icecream was strong, but there was too little! Especially when it was shared.

Overall, Wagamamas has some good food, although it tends to lean on the sweet side of things (Along with Han's Cafe .. why is that??).
