31 Aug - A couple of food pics from the weekend

I got a new toy last week .. a Nokia 6220 phone, which has some wanko Carl Zeiss 5MP camera attached to the back of it. So on the weekend, I took a couple of snaps of some of my weekend food:

Burgers on Saturday: Chicken patty, tasty cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, fried onion and perinaise.

Sunday dinner: (going clockwise) fried wontons, chinese cabbage and shiitake mushrooms, siu yuk, curry chicken and plenty of rice with tons of curry gravy. Mmmmm.

16 Aug - Home Food - Chicken, mash and vegies

This is my lunch for most of next week. Deboned chicken drumsticks, with garlic mash potato, wilted spinach and peas and corn. The sauce was made from onions, garlic, mushrooms, chicken stock (made from the drumstick bones) and cream.

The deboned drumsticks have a little tendon/gristle due to their size (all large drumsticks tend to have a few chewy bits), but the taste of the dark meat and the juiciness made it well worth the effort of deboning them.

15 Aug - Dominos, Ellenbrook

Last night at Arnee-ah and Ah-Carley's place, we had pizza before playing cards (Uno, Texas Holdem, Pontoon/Blackjack and normal poker) along with TV Week Trivia.

I haven't had Dominos Pizza in awhile, but went for my usual deep pan Supreme pizza. The crust wasn't as thick as I remember, and the ingredients were more pronounced (bigger chunks of bits and pieces). Went down well, but could of done with some jalapenos. I didn't experience any ill effects the next day too, which I normally get after eating lots of fatty foods (and one of the reasons I stopped eating Dominos in the first place).

14 Aug - Home Food - "Nandos" under a brick

I saw an unusual but logical way of cooking chicken on the internet. A butterflied chicken is grilled on the BBQ in medium low heat, pressed down with two bricks. The weight of the bricks keeps the chicken flat and hard up against the hot grill, resulting in nice marks. Here's my attempt at 'chicken under a brick', using about a third of a bottle of Nandos marinade. I failed when cutting up the chicken and dropped a quarter (luckily it was the breast though)... Served alongside the chicken included corn on the bbq (wrapped in al foil) and BBQ'ed potato wedges.

13 Aug - KFC, Mirrabooka

I got back late after stopping by the office this afternoon. Not feeling like cooking, and after receiving my tax refund, I opted for the cheats option. Actually, my tax refund this year didn't cover this 3 piece feed... fail.

I actually finished all 3 pieces with no problems today. I recall not long ago that I struggled after two pieces. Not sure what's up with that.

8 Aug - Elie's Tent, Victoria Park

For CB's birthday, we went out to Elie's Tent, a Lebanese place in Victoria Park. The booking was big enough for us to get a table with couches.

For entree, I went for the Bastorma, which was defined on the menu as "thin slices of hot seasoned smoked beef". It was quite smokey and a bit like jerky, but was not hot at all. Eaten with the lebanese bread, it was a little dry but still quite tasty.

For mains, I went for the BBQ Platter, which has "Shish Tawook, Shish Kebab, Kafta, Falafel, Hoummos, Moutabbal and Tabbouleh". I ate most of the plate, but left about half the tabbouleh. After eating most things with some lebanese bread, I was stuffed.

All in all the food was pretty tasty. CB's BBQ platter was tweaked to including chicken instead of lamb, and she got some cut up chicken meat which tasted oh so good. I got harassed by the bellydancer because I was not watching her when she was dancing. She tried pulling me up, but my two left feet couldn't stand up properly..... Note to self: sit as far away from the main "hall" if there is a next time.

5 Aug - Terrazza, Morley

So it was CB's birthday on the 6th, so on the 5th we had cake and coffee with her family at Terrazza in Morley. After looking at their cake selection, I went for the tiramisu instead, along with a hot chocolate. Both not bad, the tiramisu was quite rich and full of marscapone and cream. Not good for the guts but great for the tastebuds...
