28 Dec - Lobster Shack, Cervantes

CB and I went for a drive up the Indian Ocean drive today and stopped by Cervantes for lunch at the Lobster Shack. We ordered half a lobster with chips and slaw and a serve of fish and chips.

The lobster was cooked well. It had a burnt oil wok hei type flavour which I think came from grilling the shell. Some of this flavour was also imparted into the chips resting below which made them extra tasty.

The fish, which was mackerel, was nice and crisp. Not overly strongly flavoured which is what I was expecting from a mackerel.

The chips in both dishes were done well. After polishing off both baskets of all edible food, it felt like just the right amount.

27 Dec - Rustique Swan Valley, Henley Brook

The new business at the Madhatters location. I had the Rustique burger with added bacon after CB's chicken burger came with bacon.

Even with the bacon, there was not enough seasoning. The meat patty to me needed salt. I didn't think to add some from the shaker at the time and just ploughed through.

21 Dec - Kent Street Cafe, Rockingham

Another work lunch, this time I had to pay for my own meal. I opted for the special which was some fried chicken, on a fluffy potato thingy and rocket salad with maple dressing.

It was too sweet for me. I was hoping for the dressing to still be sharp with a slight taste of maple syrup but to me it was overpowered.

15 Dec - Brotzeit German Food and Bier, Baldivis

An end of year work lunch of pork knuckle, half a litre of cider and a sticky date pudding.

The crackling in the knuckle was good. Nice and crisp, not chewy. By the end though, I was feeling a bit gross. The meat was bland until the jus was poured over.

The sticky date was OK, nothing to rave about.

26 Nov - Kappy's Restaurant, Guildford

A birthday dinner out in Guildford. CB and I shared the whitebait starter and profiterole dessert. The whitebait was crisp and tasty, whilst the profiteroles had a lemon custard which was decent.

For main, I chose the chilli crab linguine. I couldn't taste much of the crab, the dish tasted mostly of tomato and chilli. It had a decent kick and the chilli definitely built up by the end of the dish. I also made a mess of my shirt as the tomato splattered everywhere.

3 Nov - AE Sushi, Hillaries

A small set of plates before having a karaage bento box.

27 Oct - Hurricane Grill, Hillaries

CB and I shared the squid and chicken wing starters. They were quite good, the peri peri wings had a decent heat buildup.

I had a rib medley for mains which had all three lamb, beef and pork ribs. The beef ones were a little dry and by the time I was half way through the pork ones, they were cold and I was full. Next time definitely go a full rack of other pork or lamb.

21 Oct - Wild Fig Cafe, Scarborough

A dinner at the Wild Fig Cafe for my birthday. The lamb shank was tender, I didn't need a knife to eat my main. It was decently tasty. The dessert and starter were ok, nothing to rave about.

20 Oct - Mochachos, Mirrabooka

A lazy night as I couldn't be bothered cooking. These guys were in the entertainment book so decided to give them a go. CB and I had a double chicken burger in hot hotness and shared a large chips.

The burger was quite good. I could go hotter, but the size and fillings were decent. I'd try it again in extra hot and maybe even dynamo hotness.

The chips were dusted in a seasoning which was very reminiscent of barbeque crisps.

14 Oct - Dome, Ellenbrook

After dinner, coffee and cake was consumed at Dome. The cake was a baked blueberry cheesecake. The cake was ricotta based but completely smooth. It was a decent cake. Probably a bit big as a single serve but sharing for two was just the right size.

14 Oct - Mouthful Duck, Ellenbrook

CB and I shared some hargow and soft shell crab for starters, and I went for the mee goreng for mains.

The starters were ok, the crab was supposed to be salt and pepper but I didn't think it was peppery nor salty.

The mee goreng was sweet. It had decent bite and had decent goodies but would've preferred a more savoury flavour.

30 Sep - Villa Da Vinci, Ballajura

A bowl of wedges to start. The wedges were crisp and fresh, tasty on their own and decent with sweet chilli. Would've preferred aioli as advertised but didn't want to kick up a fuss.

Fettuccini Mafiosa for main. Pan fried spicy Italian sausage with fettuccini, onion, capsicum, sundried tomato, olives, spinach, feta with a white wine anchovy infused sauce (garlic, chilli). The main flavour was the sausage, the sauce was watery. It was ok but I should've gone a cream or tomato based dish.

23 Sep - Bread Top, Morley

An Asian style bakery in Coventry Markets. Not the cheapest prices compared to Singapore but can't be picky here in Australia. I chose to custard filled options, a bun and donut. The bun was pillowy soft but the donut had more custard. I think I preferred the bun over the donut.

8 Sep - Nando's, Malaga

I had a gift voucher to use up and Nando's had a $11 promotion for a quarter chicken, 4 ribs and chips.

Someone used my desk at work and left a voucher for free meatballs and chips with a mains purchase. So with two $11 specials, two free sides were received.

I opted for extra hot and tonight's chicken was fiery.

26 Aug - Bravo's, Victoria Park

A birthday lunch for Julie. I opted for the chicken parmigiana. It was OK, I much prefer and should've asked just for the schnitzel instead. I find the tomato sauce makes everything soggy.

19 Aug - Woodfire Italian Restaurant, Ellenbrook

A $15 lunch special pizza (Capricciosa: San marzano tomato sugo, mozzarella, free range leg ham, mushrooms, artichokes, olives) and side of thrice cooked chips.

Didn't need the chips as the pizza was filling enough. The crust was nice and crisp but the base towards the middle was a little flimsy and soggy. Still tasted good with the toppings selection though.

14 Aug - Dawat Indian, Bennett Springs

A starter platter for two, for me. It was OK, nothing fantastic.

12 Aug - Springs Chinese Restaurant, Bennett Springs

I had only coffee today up until dinner as I was working on my car and other jobs around the house. So I had a decent feed for dinner consisting of garlic beef and fried rice. To finish, I had a plain fried icecream.

7 Aug - Epicurean, Burswood

Dinner this time at Epicurean. The menu was slightly different but mostly the same as lunch.

5 Aug - Rifo's Cafe, Maylands

A full breakfast for CB's birthday brunch. It was a big serve, the bacon was a little too salty to eat on its own however my eggs were done the way I wanted them. It was getting a bit sickly by the end of it though. Don't need lunch, that's for sure.

29 Jul - Atrium, Burswood

A buffet out in Burswood. This was a lot busier than Epicurean, but the selection was decent.

29 Jul - Snacks at Coventry Markets, Morley

A curry puff from the Chinese shop and two spring rolls from the Japanese shop. Both were pretty average.
