9 Jun - Max Brenner, Philadelphia PA

Instead of coffee, we walked past Max Brenner and decided to take a break. I ended up with the 80s Milkshake: Rich chocolate milkshake topped with vanilla ice cream and a crunchy chocolate shell.

The milkshake itself was quite nice, the chocolate ice magic like shell tasted better than ice magic but was obviously a gimmick. Overall, whilst the service was good, it was an expensive shake after tip.

9 Jun - Millers Twists, Reading Terminal Markets PA

Since Philadelphia is home of the pretzel, we tried one at the markets witch is known to be one of the best.

This soft pretzel was light and buttery and not overly salty which I liked. The NYC ones look overly drenched in rock salt.

9 Jun - Famous Franks A-lot, Reading Terminal Markets PA

We were in the area after discovering a mini golf place in one of the squares, so headed back for lunch.

I had the chilli cheese dog and shared the chicken and sides with CB.

The hot dog, like others here was sloppy and hard to eat. Tasty though. Not as good as Bens Chilli Bowl in DC though.

I thought the chicken was smoked from its appearance but it turned out to be oven cooked. They were still tasty though with their continued basting. The macaroni and cheese was good but rich and the coleslaw wasn't too sweet which was good.

9 Jun - Starbucks, Philadelphia PA

CB and I have shared our last few coffees. I haven't blogged them as a picture of a takeaway cup isn't very interesting. A venti is actually quite a nice size to share. We've also been drinking hot coffee so we can add our own sugar in.

Whilst drinking this coffee this morning, I heard two strange concoctions. One was a six shot iced Americano and the other was a decaf with coconut milk.

9 Jun - Little Pete's Restaurant, Philadelp

From last night, I was told another local dish to try was scrapple. A quick Google search showed this diner not far from where we are staying.

I had a basic idea of what it was beforehand, by searching the term on the Internet. And it wasn't bad, quite salty on its own with a hint of various spices. However after eating it together with bread and runny yolk eggs to counteract the saltiness, the spice was lost.

I'll stick to bacon next time.

8 Jun - Tria Cafe, Philadelphia PA

CB and I met up with someone we met on the China tour last night. She suggested this place as it specialised in wine and cheese. It also had a share style menu.

We ended up sharing a few cheese items, some fancy bruschettas and other bits and pieces. We had vegetarian food as our friend did not regularly eat meat.

No pics unfortunately, but the food we had was actually pretty good. A nice balance from the meat I had earlier in the day.

8 Jun - The Rib Stand, Reading Terminal Markets PA

Second lunch today as there was so much choice. A dedicated rib stand was selling ribs with sides but I opted for the rib sandwich alone. Tender and tasty pork, with the drippings made this really really good.
