19 Jul - KFC, Morley

CB and I were at the Galleria yesterday and by about 1PM, we still hadn't had lunch. I wasn't that hungry still, so I decided to grab a 'snack box' from KFC.

I opted for the 'Wicked Wings snack box', which consisted of 2 Wicked Wings and chips. The Wicked Wings are drumstick and wing part in a crispy coating ... not hot and spicy though. Same crispy coating, but no fire.

The snack hit the spot well. For $3.25, it was a decent feed. The chips were fresh (the place was busy), the wings weren't as fresh but still good. If they made a Hot and Spicy version, it would've been really really good .. but then I'm a sucker for Hot and Spicy.

18 Jul - Golden King BBQ Express, Morley

We stopped by the Cantonese BBQ place for dinner, after seeing it open from Wednesday night. It was a little quiet when we walked in, but by the time we left, it was packed full! Definitely popular...

I thought I'd try some noodles this time round .. and went for one of my favs, dry wonton noodles. I had to order the char siu as an extra, but the whole dish came to under $10 still. Everything was slurped down quickly, the wontons not as good as Mum's (are they ever?) but were still reasonable for restaurant ones.

The broth was quite salty and very peppery. It hit the spot well on the cold night but I did feel very parched afterwards...

18 Jul - Char Char Bull, Fremantle

We had a team lunch in Fremantle today, due to the team completing a task under budget. So it was decided to head to Char Char Bull in Fremantle. We had to keep to a limit but it was paid for by the company .. yay!

I ended up having two Iced Coffees. They were pretty good, quite sweet and with a large scoop of icecream in the middle.
For an entree, I went for the Porcini Risotto. Quite salty from the mushrooms, but very nice and quite filling. The rice was soft and more cooked which I liked. I think I got a little grit from the mushrooms but I only had it in one mouthful so not sure. I could've eaten this and walked out satisfied (in terms of fullness), but I had another dish coming! oh oh.

For main, I chose the braised lamb shank, served on mash potato in a marsala sauce. The lamb shank was nicely braised and tender, the sauce was rich and the mashed potato was smooth and buttery. The only let down was a little bit of plastic in my meal. I thought it was a bone when I had it in my mouth, but upon retrieval, it was clear plastic...

The verdict? Nice place, good service and the food was good. Only let down was the plastic in my food. But I wouldn't say no to going back!

16 Jul - Nandos, Morley

Is Nandos considered fast food? Service wise, they're nowhere near a cafe/restaurant. But speed wise, you still have to wait for it .. so it's somewhere in between.

CB and I stopped by after car shopping last night. The store was the same cleanliness as fast food (not very) but the service was relatively quick. I went for the 'Chicken Steak' meal, comprising of a 250g breast with a side of chips, some chutney and water as a drink.

When I saw the plate, I thought I'd need seconds, but as I went through it, it was just the right amount. I chose the "Hot" level of spicyness, and it was right for me .. "Extra Hot" is way too hot. It was smokey and tasty, and whilst I normally don't like breast meat due to dryness, this wasn't too bad.

The chips were unsalted, and I had to grab some sachets of salt to make these palatable. I used the chutney as a dip, a good thing I didn't order some perinaise to go on the side....

13 Jul - Terrazza Cafe, Morley

Terrazza used to be a popular eatery for us whenever we felt like a casual lunch/dinner out, however it got added to the vito list after a number of lousy experiences. Today, after procrastinating about where to eat/drink after our nephew's third birthday, we decided to try Terrazza again, to see if it had improved since last time. Being quiet, the service was expected to be reasonable.
I had an affogato and Club Sandwich for lunch. I wasn't that hungry after eating nibblies at the birthday event, however I still ate everything on the plate. The Club Sandwich went down quickly whilst the chips weren't as good as memory serves. In the end, it was ok, the service was ok and we ended up sitting there for about 2.5 hours chatting about our upcoming trip.

11 Jul - The Gate Bar and Bistro, Success

Today I had lunch somewhere a bit more swish, instead of the food court at Cockburn central. Deciding on some deep fried goodness, I opted for the fish and chips. You can't see the chips, but they were under the fish.

I can't really stomach fatty foods anymore. I felt a bit wrong after eating my lunch, much alike the way I used to feel from a lot of KFC. The batter on the fish was decent, you could actually taste the beer, however it felt quite greasy. The tartare sauce was good and the salad was dressed nicely.

The pasta meals were ok priced and were big serves. I wouldn't mind going back, however, it will most likely only be when work related, as it's too far to go for a leisurely lunch.

5 Jul - Golden King BBQ Express, Morley

CB and I were in Morley yesterday and decided to grab some lunch whilst out. Always in the mood for some Cantonese BBQ and rice, I went for the 3 meats option, choosing char siu pork, roast pork belly and roast duck! It came with some bok choy and rice. A nice side of chilli and oil made everything spicy.

CB had some noodles in soup, with some duck served on the side. For $7.50, it was pretty good value.

I inhaled my food as I was quite hungry, and for $9, it wasn't a bad buy. Can't wait to pay half that in Singapore ... only 10 weeks to go!

4 Jul - Mikazuki Sushi, Cockburn

Today, I decided to try the tori karaage at Mikazuki. For $7.90, it wasn't bad .. lots of mayonaise and gingery soy/sake sauce, and a heap of dressing on the salad leaves. I was so hungry that I wolfed it down and would probably have it again if I craved deep fried chicken goodness. Not as good as Jaws however, I think that place has spoilted me...
