Last night, we went to Stewart's out in the valley for Julie's birthday.
The night started off with an affagatto. It went down a treat and for $3.75, they were pretty good value. I only had one though otherwise I would've had trouble sleeping later that night.
Entree was "Crisp Pork Belly, sea scallops, Granny Smith apple balsamic". For $19, it was not very value for money, but it was good to eat. The pork belly was similar to Cantonese roast pork belly, although less salty. The scallops were cooked well however. 5 bites and the dish was gone.
Mains was "Chicken Breast Filled with Forest Mushrooms. Filo wrapped, seeded mustard sauce." This was much better than entree. The filo was nice and crispy, the chicken was moist and the sauce was nice and mustardy.
Experiences at other wanko places (Rockpool) have taught us to order sides. So CB and I decided upon Cauliflower Mornay. It was a fancy version of Cauliflower Cheese, and went down a treat, although a bit oily from all the cheese on the top.
The verdict? If I went back, I'd skip entree and have mains and sides. Service was a bit lacking and mains were a bit slow to come out, but they redeemed themselves with the mains.
22 Aug - The Gate Bar and Bistro, Success
Last Friday, a group of guys at work went to The Gate to farewell one of the guys for 6 months. Since I wasn't too impressed with the Fish and Chips last time, I went for the Chicken Parma. It wasn't bad, but wasn't that great either. Note to self ... get the Chicken Caesar next time! It looked awesome!
17 Aug - Jaws Kaiten Sushi, Hay St Mall
16 Aug - Nandos Morley
Feeling like Nandos, I suggested to CB to have Nandos on Saturday for lunch. We rocked up at 11:10 to see a closed sign, however, they were quick to change it once seeing us. I ordered the chicken steak again, this time with coleslaw, and shared some chips with CB.
The coleslaw was a bit bland, definitely needed more dressing. I went for extra hot this time and it was decently hot. I think for chicken steaks, extra hot is the go, whereas with normal chicken, hot is just about right.

17 Aug - Mikazuki Sushi, Cockburn Gateway
9 Aug - Chesters Restaurant, Henley Book
CB had her birthday dinner at Chesters this year, out in the Swan Valley. To start off, I had an Iced Coffee. It was pretty good, CB ate the coffee beans and I downed the coffee pretty quickly. For entree, I went for the ribs, which were covered in a sticky barbecue sauce and served with sour cream. They weren't the most tender ribs but they were tasty, with the sour cream being a nice addition.
For main, I had the Pork Roulade, which was pork stuffed with ham, sage and parmesan, served with potato puree and a seeded mustard sauce. Mine was a bit overdone and tough, I had some of Mum's and it was a little pinker and more tender.
For desert, I had an affogatto. The icecream made it sweet and it went down well.
Overall I was impressed with Chesters. The service was good, the food was good, and they were observant enough to see it was CB's birthday and brought out her dessert with a candle and sung Happy Birthday for her.

8 Aug - Sarpino's Pizzeria, Cockburn Gateway
6 Aug - Mille Cafe, Inglewood
On Wednesday night, CB and I had dinner at Mille Cafe, and then had coffee and cake with some of her family. For entree, I went for the bruschetta. The toasted bread and tomato was good, the thick balsamic glaze I didn't really go for. But it went down pretty easily.
I thought I'd try something a bit different for main .. risotto! After the wild mushroom risotto from a few weeks back, I had a try of seafood risotto. It was pretty good, needed a little salt but also went down a treat. I got 4 big prawns. I was quite full after the risotto that instead of cake, I opted for icecream (which fills the gaps).
The icecream bowl was actually served in a glass. And it was "just" vanilla icecream. Some nuts and chocolate sauce would've been good, but I guess then it would've been a sundae and not an icecream "bowl".

3 Aug - Regal on Roe, Northbridge
Today, I had dim sum at Regal on Roe with some of CB's work friends. This place looked a little more upmarket then our normal dim sum destination Welcome Inn, and the service probably was better too. But so were the prices.
All the dim sum staples were there and eaten, char siu bao, chicken feet, siew mai, pork spare ribs etc etc. The squid was dusted with salt and five spice, and bigger than Welcome Inn, I like both to be honest. I also tried egg tarts here instead of having sago, the pastry being lovely and flakey, the custard not being very sweet.
Would I go back? I wouldn't say no if anyone suggested it, but with most of the same food available at Welcome Inn and cheaper, that'd probably be my pick.

1 Aug - Chinese Canton, Cockburn Gateway
Not wanting to have Japanese again (I had it the last two times here), I decided to have some noodles at the Chinese place. I shouldn't have. I ordered the beef kway teow. It was ok, but there was not one trace of wok hei. I should of taken all the other bastardized Chinese food as a warning.... maybe next time if I feel like some MSG salty Chinese, I will come back...
