21 Aug - 150 East Riverside Bar Restaurant, Ascot

For Julie's birthday, we went to 150 East, located off Great Eastern Highway. This place is attached to a hotel or something and was a little hard to find. But I got there in the end haha.

The coffee was strong, and reasonably priced. It was a little inconsistent though. Other peoples flat whites were cappuccinos.

CB and I shared some wedges to start with. These were chunky and freshly fried, although not as crisp as I would've liked. The aioli had a decent garlic hint.

I had the wild mushroom and duck risotto. It was creamy and had a decent serve of mushrooms and duck. It was served with a red wine reduction and some rocket leaves.

I wasn't going to have dessert, but the specials menu had a pavlova special for $10. A decent meringue, served with blueberries, strawberries and double cream. Mmmmm..

All in all, I thought the food was decent. However, we were seated on an outside veranda kind of arrangement and the rain was seeping through the roof. Luckily, the rain didn't drip on our table, although the water did run close by. Someones chair also broke whilst they were sitting in it too, luckily no injuries there. We did get a fantastic discount when using our entertainment cards though...

Schweinshaxe

I found out about this German dish whilst looking through some food sites. I was shopping at Midland Gate on Saturday and noticed that the Woolies were selling fresh pork hocks. Sold. I picked these up, whacked them in the oven at 180 on a bed of onions and apples for 2 hours. It was cooked, but not crispy. So up went the temperature, and eventually the griller.

This dish has potential. I need to get the skin crackled all the way around, and then it will be awesome. The meat underneath is fatty and delicious. Not good for the arteries, but nothing tasty ever is. I served it with some mash potato and some a sauce made from the onion and apple.

7 Aug - Cicconis, Wembley

After minigolf, dinner was at Cicconis with the gang for CB's birthday. This place is situated on Cambridge Street.

CB and I shared some salt cod fritters. Whilst tasty, it was more potato balls than fish. Slightly disappointed, but I was so hungry, it didn't really matter.

I had an Iced Coffee, which was a little watery for my liking. More icecream/cream would've made it richer.

I couldn't decide on what to have, so opted for a chicken pizza, with anchovies. Whilst I enjoyed it, I should've opted for a pasta, after noticing the giant serves the others received. Oh well... The base was crisp with a slight chew.

CB and I also shared a sticky date pudding. This was sickly sweet, so CB enjoyed it more than I did. A little more icecream would've gone down well for me, to cut through all that sweetness.

7 Aug - Leap Frogs Cafe, Wanneroo

A group of us went to the Botanic Gardens to play some minigolf last Saturday for CB's birthday. Before starting, we had lunch at the cafe.

Originally, I was going to have the steak sandwich. But when I had a look at the specials board, I ended up changing my mind for the fish and chips. These were OK, but for the money, I was hoping for more fish. The fish was quite good though. The aioli wasn't very garlicky.

I also had a vanilla milkshake which wasn't bad. It could've been a bit thicker however.

CB and I have a rivalry when it comes to minigolf. I won again, by one stroke, which gives me more bragging rights till next time...

6 Aug - Subway, Cockburn Gateway

Instead of the usual Japanese or Chinese, I went for Subway. Trying something new, I went for the meatball sub, with cheddar cheese and all salads. This footlong turned to be two subs in one. Vegie delight on one side, and meatball on the other, due to the way it was constructed...

4 Aug - Sienas, Morley

Last Wednesday, I had dinner with CB's family at Sienas Morley, formally La Porchetta. I went for the chicken schnitzel, with chips. It was OK, but nothing that special. The schnitzel was a little dry (being breast meat), the chips were decent though. I did feel like vegies afterwards though haha.

31 Jul - KFC, Beechboro

Since I felt like KFC last week, I deliberately didn't prepare anything for dinner last night and sent CB to grab dinner. We used the "Cheap as Chips" voucher, which, for $20, included 8 pieces of chicken, 2 large potato and gravy, 2 large chips and nuggets. We also add a coleslaw for a whopping $5!

I ended up eating 3 pieces of chicken, not really needing the last one. I also had some nuggets and half of CBs chips. We kept one potato and gravy for lunch today. 3 pieces of chicken were left and I've put it in the freezer for porridge.
