A whole group of us went out for my Aunt's birthday last night. She chose a Greek place in Subiaco, which specialised in meze, small dishes of food akin to tapas. Everyone at the table chose the regular "main size" menu, whilst CB and I opted to try some of the meze dishes.
We had the potato wedges, whitebait, meze plate and a small greek salad. I would've grabbed the menu items off their website but it looks out of date.
The potato wedges were expensive, but really good. It didn't look like value for money, but the wedges were very chunky, hand cut, and had just the right ratio of crisp edges and fluffy potato inside. The aioli served with the wedges was very tasty too.
The whitebait was CB's pick and wasn't too bad. With a splash of lemon, these were tasty, but not as crispy as I imagined they would be. It was served with a potato and garlic dip, which was OK.
The meze plate consisted of grilled octopus, pan fried squid, keftedes (meat balls), sausage, haloumi cheese, tzatziki, turkish bread and more of that potato and garlic dip. Since CB doesn't eat red meat, I ended up eating the meatballs and sausage and sampling the squid and octopus. The sausage was nice, the keftedes to me were a little dry. The octopus and squid were good. The octopus was cooked with chilli, whilst the squid had some charred taste but not a lot of colour, so not sure how that was done. The dip went well with the turkish bread, it matched better than the whitebait.
The greek salad was refreshing and light. The fetta was surprisingly creamy (and not salty) and the onions must've been soaked prior to get rid of the zing. Tasty stuff, although the olives weren't pitted and way too salty for my liking. CB mopped them all up though.
Other reviews of George's Meze had praised the attentive staff, but our experience wasn't quite so. It took awhile to take our orders, and when food started to arrive, the wrong dishes were presented to our table a couple of times. These were quickly rectified though, and our bill was correct, so credit for them for doing so.

My chicken dish was very nice. I'm glad I went for that over the steak.
