28 Jan - Welcome Inn Teahouse

Today, I had lunch at Welcome Inn Teahouse, with some of CB's family. Despite the very hot weather (forecast of 40 degrees today), the place was packed, and people were even willing to wait outside for a table!

Welcome Inn is the choice for Dim Sum for us, due to it's relatively quick and speedy service, and consistent tasty food. I had a good range of food, from memory, ranging from pork spare ribs, char siu bao, chicken feet, fish balls, siew mai, fish balls, deep fried squid tentacles, the prawn in the white noodle pastry with soy sauce, crab balls and raddish cake.

Unfortunately, didn't take any pictures, as food was coming and going all the time...

I did upload the pic from CB's phone though .. see under the Atrium entry with the weird coloured deserts (Don't know what happened there?! ... not my camera!)

20 Jan - Ning Kwong

Another crapso camera phone piccy .. sorry.

On the 20th Jan, Arnee-ah and Carlee-ah had us over for games and some food. It was decided that Ningers was the way to go, where I had a large Fried Rice (non deluxe version), along with Szechuan Chicken. CB and I normally go for the Cashew Chicken but I decided to try something different.

All up, the meal cost $15.70. It wasn't too bad, although I much prefer the Cashew Chicken. The Fried Rice was not as salty as usual, either the chef forgot to add so much salt, or they've decided to lighten it up due to suggestions from other patrons. Either way, it's probably a good thing.

19 Jan - The Atrium Buffet

On the 29th Jan, CB and I went out for dinner. Since we both heard good things about The Atrium at Burswood, we decided that we should try it for ourselves. The ambience of the place was a little weird for me, as the restaurant was all open. Nonetheless, we were seated near the water feature, and away from the traffic. Unfortunately, this meant being quite a bit away from the buffet table too...

Apologies for the crapso photos, they were taken by my shizenhouzen camera phone. I also was too eager to start eating, so many plates are actually half eaten ;)

Round 1 consisted of the cold buffet. I had cold chicken, smoked salmon (already eaten and not pictured), some prawns and a raw oyster. I decided that whilst I had the chance to eat a raw oyster (without specifically ordering it at a restaurant), I'd give them another shot.... The verdict? I much prefer them cooked.

The second plate is what I like to call the plate of protein. All different kinds of meat dishes were piled on top of each other and ranged from Lamb Curry, Fish in Saffron sauce, Beef Stroganoff, Chicken Cacciatore, some roast potato and pumpkin, and some steak. Much of the food on this plate was a little bland, with the curry being the tastiest, but still lacking in terms of curry goodness. Overall, I was a little disappointed in the hot foods.

Plate 3 went back to cold foods as it was more enjoyable than the hot stuff. More chicken, a lot more salmon, some salami and some more prawns.

There's another picture to go here. That is the desert plate. Unfortunately, it is on CB's camera and she's currently in Sydney. The deserts were a mixed affair. Some items were just plain weird, whilst others were great.

Overall judgement on The Atrium? It was OK I guess. If I ever went back, I'd be sure to touch up more of the cold than the hot stuff, and I know which deserts to steer clear from.

I didn't eat as much as I have in the past with buffets, and I've been known to put away a lot more food (see http://waggme.blogspot.com/2007/01/hollow-legs.html). However, I think the Singapore trip was an exception though, the guts were truly primed to take a beating.

13 Jan - Antico Cafe

On Saturday night we had dinner at Antico Cafe (they spell it Caffe but I think it's wrong). I couldn't decide what I wanted to try so I asked CB if she wanted to try two dishes and share half each.

The first meal was the chargrilled seafood plate. It consisted of fish, prawns, 1 scallop, a few squid rings and some mussels served on some fries. The squid was a little bland, but everything else was pretty good. The prawns were definitely the best, they had a lot of "char", and so were a little smokey but still wonderfully juicy.

The other dish shared was a chicken dish with a description of "This pair of rolled chicken breast fillets stuffed with breadcrumbs, prawns mushrooms and herbs will truly delight! Served in a cream mushroom and garlic sauce atop our sensational garlic bread." The description certainly did sound lovely. The verdict? It was OK, the chicken with mushroom sauce was nice, the stuffing to me was a little bland ..

As usual, there were some plates couldn't be finished, so I was offered a slice of pizza. I forget the type, but it was pretty good, although a little on the salty side.

Afterwards, we walked around East Perth for a bit, before finally deciding on Monty Fiore for desert. Here I shared a malteaser cheesecake, however I forgot to take a picture. That wasn't too bad, but nothing to rave on about...

Highlight Reel 1 (New York New York)

Here's the first of a few trips down food memory lane ...

The "Giant Yankee Burger" .. supposedly enough to feed 4. 2 pounds of beef, 8 inches of bun, with salad and cheese. When walking past New York New York in C!tyLink Mall Singapore, I saw the picture on a promo board outside the restaurant. I knew I had to try it, and luckily the guys agreed to eating there for dinner.

I received weird looks from the waitress when I ordered, I even got some weird and encouraging comments from the table next to us. When it finally came, I shovelled down as much as I could.

My main priority was the burger .. I had to finish that. To be honest the burger wasn't that great, but I decent enough to eat I guess. As you can see from the pictures, I managed to finish the burger, but not the chips...
