20 Dec - The Swinging Pig, Rockingham

Another great tasting lunch cos it was work funded. Not feeling happy with my last burger choice, I thought I'd go for the wagyu burger with bacon and egg. The meat was tender, but the burger overall was way too tall to eat properly. I eventually opted to eat it piece by piece, which quenched my appetite, but would've tasted better eaten whole.

15 Dec - Nandos, Malaga

After a hot day of gardening work, I didn't feel like making anything for dinner, and felt like junk food. CB and I had Nandos, where I had a burger with the lot and a share of extra large peri chips.

The burger was OK, although the extra hot sauce drowned out everything else flavour wise. I should've stuck to chicken instead of opting for their burgers.

14 Dec - Sushi Master, Morley

CB and I tried the sushi train at Coventry Square Markets. Prices per plate started from $2.20 and went up from there. Compared to Jaws, some of it was cheaper, but some of it was more expensive. They were missing one important thing though, and that was karaage. Whilst you can order it in a bento set, they do not offer it on the train. The sushi was quite good, the tea was nice, although exxy.

16 Nov - Rustico Tapas & Bar - Rockingham

After a hard slog at work, the team were treated to a lunch. Rustico was chosen as we had been there previously (although we had to pay, and therefore went for cheaper options).

A colleague and I were interested in the set menu, which consisted of a two choices per setting. We chose:

Duck and Pork Terrine.
Scallops, pear puree, chorizo, candied jamon.
Wild mushrooms, sherry cream, toasted sourdough.
Free range pork belly, apple sauce, sticky Pedro Ximinez.
Braised beef cheeks, chorizo, mushrooms.
Chocolate fondant, vanilla bean icecream.

My favourites would have to have been the scallops or the pork belly, although all courses were enjoyed. The scallops, with its sweet flesh, sweet puree and salty chorizo made the tastebuds dance. And I'm a big sucker for slow roasted, melt in the mouth pork, with crackling.

Eating didn't finish till nearly 3pm and I certainly didn't need dinner later that night (not that it stopped me).

11 Nov - Cafe Vivere (Coventry Square Markets), Morley

A quick bite to eat before doing some fruit and veg shopping at the markets. CB and I grabbed some food each, but could've easily shared one. I didn't end up having lunch after my burek and coffee.

4 Nov - Coode St Cafe, Mount Lawley

CB, Jaz and I had breakfast out at Coode St Cafe. I had some poached eggs on toast, whilst CB had some porridge. The eggs were nice, but were a little small for two big slices of toast.

27 Oct, 3 Nov - Ikea

A small kitchen project prompted a couple of visits to Ikea, two Saturdays in a row. Those who get there early enough can get a cheap breakfast, a cheap fry up for $2.95. My plates were even more bulging due to CB not eating the sausage or bacon.

Not the best tasting sausages or eggs, but for the price, it's a good feed. And it's not too busy when getting there at 8am.

23 Oct - KFC Dinner

Nobody eats salad on their birthday. I decided to go for the 9 for $9.95 deal at KFC, and try and offset it with some healthier options.

So some 5 minute shoe-string fries and some steamed veg later, I still felt dirty after eating the chicken.

20 Oct - Esprezzo Cafe, Noranda

Caught up with CB's family at a cafe in Noranda markets. Since CB and I hadn't eaten anything, we decided to have a small bite. I went for the poached eggs on toast, and went for soft eggs. Unfortunately, my eggs were overdone, pretty much hard yolk and not soft at all. The coffee was good however.

20 Oct - Char Char Bull, Fremantle

My birthday dinner this year was out in Freo, at Char Char Bull. I had the pork belly starter along with the seafood risotto for mains.

The pork belly was very tender and moist, however the crackling was a little soft in places. It also was only seasoned with five spice, so it needed a decent season with some salt. The salad and salsa were both sweet, as the western world loves sweet things with pork.

The risotto was full of prawns and bits of salmon, full of cream and butter and sooooo good. The rice grains were nice and soft and this was well seasoned, unlike the pork.

13 Oct - Giardini's, Leederville

Arnee-ah's birthday was going to be in the Swan Valley, but due to availability, it was held in Leederville instead.
For starters, CB and I shared some brushchetta. The bread had a hint of garlic and it was good with the fresh tomato topping.

For mains, I decided to go for the Steak Sandwich with egg. The steak, although quite well done, was still quite tender and had a smokey flavour to it. I enjoyed this so much that it didn't last long, and I spent awhile watching others eat haha.

Afterwards was dessert at San Churros, where I had some churros along with a Spanish Hot Chocolate.

6 Oct - Golden King BBQ Express, Morley

CB and I were out and about yesterday, so decided to grab lunch on the go. I usually go for roast meat and rice, but decided to have noodles. I opted for the combination hor fun with egg sauce.

I could smell them frying my noodles, the restaurant filled with smokey oily smelling goodness. When I received my plate, it did smell good, and the noodles had decent wok hei. My only gripe was that there weren't enough noodles!

23 Sep - Cafe Vivere (Coventry Square Markets), Morley

Caught up with CB's folks again, and after the last burek, thought I'd try the spinach and feta. The saltiness of the feta made this a better choice than the meat version, and this time, I shared half with CB, making it a more comfortable experience.

16 Sep - Cafe Vivere (Coventry Square Markets), Morley

Caught up with CB's folks again, and this time I went for the meat burek. The pastry was crisp, the meat slightly spiced, but it lacked salt overall for me. Coupled with a large coffee, I didn't need to eat lunch after eating two slices.

8 Aug - Old Chang Kee, Waterford

I felt like some decent curry puffs (the Chinese shop ones are OK, but definitely not anything to rave about), so CB and I decided to trek to the only OCK in Perth. We bought the party box, and got 5 Curry-O and 5 Mackarel-O. Nothing much to say, except the Singaporean ones are better, but these are still leaps and bounds ahead of the Chinese shop versions.

7 Sep - McDonalds, Rockingham

A guy on a motorbike decided to fall off it and block the only road into work, resulting in the road being closed for two and a half hours. After waiting for 40 minutes, a colleague and I decided to grab some food at the closest Maccas.

I opted for a Mighty McMuffin meal, I think it's similar to the Massive McMuffin, with two slices of bacon, egg, sausage, cheese and sauce. It was good, although as you can tell by the picture, it was slopped together. The coffee (cappuccino) was watery and weak.

2 Sep - Coventry Square Markets, Morley

Brunch was with CB's folks for Fathers Day at a little cafe in Coventrys Markets. I forget the name, but they also sold pizza by the slice. The food was quite affordable (cheap) and the coffee was quite good too. I opted for a bacon and egg burger, it came in a nice soft bun and tomato sauce. Interestingly, it also included mushrooms. Not traditional by any means, but was a decent feed.

18 Aug - Dominos Pizza, Ellenbrook

I normally don't eat Dominos as it gives me digestive issues afterwards, but I thought I'd eat it and pay the consequences later. I bought a Supreme and Vegorama pizza, with the leftovers to eat the next day.

Surprisingly, Dominos have turned to using a decent bacon, and the Supreme Pizza was quite nice.

17 Aug - Ballajura Fish and Chips, Ballajura

Not feeling like cooking on a Friday night, I decided to grab some takeaway. Whilst getting a prescription from the chemist, I ordered some fish and chips. I went for the seafood basket, costing $11.50 I think. I poured sweet chilli, tomato, barbecue and tartare sauce in the corners and hoed in.

Everything was fresh and crunchy, a welcome change from other Fish and Chips that I've had. I did have that awful greasy feeling afterwards though.

11 Aug - Old Bakery on Eighth Cafe, Maylands

Brunch on Saturday was with CB's family for her birthday the week prior. This little cafe was a good setting to grab brunch, with a shaded eating area.

I had the eggs benedict, which included bacon instead of ham. The hollandaise sauce was deliciously creamy and tart, but the egg yolks in the poached eggs were cooked solid. It appeared that everyones poached eggs were this way so I presume it was the way they cooked them.

To wash it down, I had a flat white mug. Good value for $4.50.

4 Aug - Black Swan Winery, Henley Brook

CB's birthday this year was out in Henley Brook. We were seated on a table in the back corner of the restaurant, making it a bit squishy to get to and from my seat. The dining area was dimly lit, with candles on the 2-4 seater tables, but with nothing on the bigger tables.

To start, I had a side of chips. For $10, I was expecting some good chips, and they didn't disappoint. The chips were fresh, piping hot and crisp, and there were a lot! After eating these, I didn't feel like I needed to eat mains at all.

I had a pork belly mains, which was served with apple and parsnip from memory. The pork belly was delicously rich and tender, with the sweet and slightly acidic fruit working well with all the fat. My only gripes were that it was small for the money ($39) and the cracking was chewy and not very pleasant to eat.

CB decided she wanted dessert and went for a chocolate tart. I had a couple of spoonfuls and it was quite nice. This serving was charged cheaper as they had run out and served smaller slices. Probably a good thing, with the tart and cream being quite rich and heavy. I also had a "Wicked Vanilla shake" which was an ordinary vanilla shake, and a cappuccino which was 1/2 foam.

27 Jul – Adelaide Day 5

The last morning started off with some more breakfast buffet. I forgot to take another picture of the eggs benedict. I also tried some of the SA natural honey they had on display and some local Iced Coffee.

2012-07-27 12.34.38 The flight back was pretty uneventful. I’m not sure if there was only one choice or they simply ran out, but I had to have a vegetarian pasta dish. It wasn’t that good.
