17 Jun - Shake Shack, Pentagon City
I wanted to try their other burgers since the chicken one was quite good. I opted for the smoke shack which included bacon and no salad. This burger was meaty and gooey from the cheese.
The sundae wasn't bad. Salted caramel and chocolate. The caramel wasn't mixed very well though and overpowered in spots. With a little less it would've been spot on.
17 Jun - Whole Foods Market, Columbus Circle New York
This morning was a lazy one as we packed to head back to Washington DC and head home. Last night we stopped off at Whole Foods again.
They didn't have the apple danish that I had earlier in the day so I got these instead. I don't think they were as good.
The iced coffee appeared to be from a powder but was decently strong.
13 Jun - Sylvia's Restaurant, Harlem New York
Sylvia's is a well known restaurant in Harlem serving soul food. Once we sat down, we were served corn bread which was slightly sweet and flakey.
I ordered the dark meat fried chicken with collard greens and mac and cheese. The fried chicken was crisp and juicy. The collard greens were good, cooked in some tasty broth. The mac and cheese was creamy but not overly cheesey.
For dessert, CB and I shared the peach cobbler with some icecream. It seemed sweet to me. The peach filling could've been more tart.
Both of us rolled out of this place.
12 Jun - Mighty Quinn's BBQ, West Village New York
Whilst walking from "The Highline" back towards the train lines, this place was along a strip of restaurants.
I ordered a brisket sandwich and shared the other sides (baked beans, fries and coleslaw). The brisket was soft but a little dry. A little sauce fixed that up.
The fries were a little floppy and soggy and the beans with burnt ends was definitely smokey.
12 Jun - Parisian Deli, Columbus Ave New York
After walking around Central Park for a couple of hours, we walked out to grab a bite to eat. On the west side was this deli. I grabbed an "84th and Columbus" (this must be their signature roll) which had chicken, bacon, cheese and salad. It wasn't bad, but not the best hoagie I've had either.
Also grabbed some small packets of chips to try. The cheddar ones had a decent cheesiness to them and the jalapeno ones did build up in spice as you kept eating them. I still prefer original though.
12 Jun - White Castle, Harlem New York
By the time we got out this morning and had coffee,it was after 10AM. So I decided to grab some White Castle for a snack. I ordered two cheeseburger sliders and shared some macaroni and cheese nibbles.
The cheeseburgers were OK. Pillowy white buns, ketchup, onion, pickle and cheese make up the majority of the flavouring. The meat didn't really add a lot of flavour.
The nibbles were a heart attack waiting to happen. Best eaten hot for sure.
10 Jun - Majestic Delicatessen Cafe, New York
CB and I stopped here after walking around the Times Square area. I decided to try the Reuben sandwich.
It was OK but quite expensive for what you got. I probably should've forgone the reuben for pastrami and salad. It was quite salty and my kidneys will probably pay for it.
The plain cheesecake was delicious. Great texture, and not overly sweet. There was no base which was a bit weird.
