The morning started off with breakfast in the hotel buffet.

I started off with some toast, with butter and jam. Whilst I had the bread in the toaster, I noticed that they had chips (instead of the usual hash browns). I had some of those too, but they weren’t the best.

Second round consisted of porridge with peanuts and salted egg, with a side of more chips.

Leader Village, Taroko Gorge, Hualien, Taiwan

Lunch was a set menu affair in Taroko Gorge. We had to preorder the set that we wanted and had the option of beef, lamb, fish, vegetarian or fried rice. The whole table ended up getting the fish set which consisted of:

Salad starter. A green salad with a mayonnaise dressing.

Rice wine, served in a pig cup. You sip the wine through a hole in the snout. The wine was sour, didn’t taste like rice at all.

The set which included a teriyaki style fish (very fatty, and rich, should’ve eaten it with the rice), pork bone soup, glutinous rice in bamboo, a jellyfish salad thingy, pickled chilli and greens, sweet potato, mushrooms and a salsa.

A fruit of unknown description was served afterwards. It was similar to pear in texture but tasted slightly different.

On our way back to Taipei, a toilet stop turned into a snack. The tour guide described these cookies with pork, redbean or spring onions in them and it was hard to imagine. It turned out to be a pastry, similar to a pastie.

CB and I ended up sharing a red bean and a spring onion version, costing $20 TWD in total. The spring onion one was the best.

Noodle Shop, Breeze Shopping Centre, Taipei

After walking around for awhile, we ended up back at the food court of the nearest shopping centre to our hotel. Here I had a seafood noodle soup, which ended up having a slice of pork in it too. The noodles were OK, not the tastiest broth, but it was edible. It cost $200 TWD.

You said: "On our way back to Taipei, a toilet stop turned into a snack." Do you know how wrong that sounds? Haha!
