Old Chang Kee and Porridge Stall at Velocity Mall, Novena, Singapore

Breakfast was a Curry-O with 3 egg porridge from the porridge vendor at the Kopitiam food mall at Velocity. The Curry-O was OK, although I don’t think I got any egg. I think I prefer Sardine-O's now with their tomato fishy flavour. The porridge was good, with chunks of century and salted duck egg. An egg was stirred into the porridge as it warmed up and the yolk was still runny, making the porridge a light yellow after the yolk broke. A good porridge but was very filling.

Chicken Rice, Singapore Food Trail, Singapore

Lunch today was at the 1960s themed hawker called the Singapore Food Trail, under the Singapore Flyer. This was not so much a trail, but a nook. Supposedly the venue is able to hold 800 diners but I doubt it. I opted for the boiled chicken version for $5. The chicken was moist and cooked perfectly, the rice was oily and had good flavour. The soup wasn’t as peppery as others I’ve had in the past. And the chilli sauce had decent poke. I tried some of CB’s roasted version (is actually deep fried), and it was a little overdone and dry. I much prefer the boiled version these days as it is only cooked once, as opposed to the roasted version, which is boiled and then deep fried.

 

Tiger Beer Tour, Singapore

We went to Asia Pacific Brewery out past Boon Lay to take a tour of the Tiger Beer factory at 5PM. After a 45 minute tour, we had 45 minutes to drink to our hearts content and eat peanuts. I ended up having a glass of Tiger, along with some Bulmers cider, whilst eating a whole lot of peanuts.

Indonesian Stall, Jurong Point, Singapore

Dinner was at the halal food court back at Jurong Point after the Tiger tour. I decided to try the Indonesian stall (Indonesians being Muslim, and therefore, should be good halal food) and had the Ayam Penyet set. To be honest, all the fried bits on the raw coleslaw weren’t very tasty, the only saving grace was the very hot mutton curry sauce that was poured over the rice. I should’ve just had a plate of rice with rendang and other vegetables instead of going a set .. that will teach me next time.

Bengawan Solo, Jurong Point, Singapore

Wagg and I decided to share some pandan cake from Bengawan Solo. Each slice cost $1.10 and we ended up sharing with others. The pandan cake was moist and had a nice texture, but was lacking in both coconut and pandan flavours.
