Breakfast started at the hotel buffet again. This mornings spread included:
Cold meats, corn, bacon, fried egg and potato salad. The potato salad was weird, it was made with a mix of potato and yams I think.
Miso soup, hash browns, some sweet spring roll thing and mushrooms.
Seafood Restaurant, Kenting National Park, Taiwan
Lunch was a rushed affair so we decided to go with the recommended option from the tour guide. It was a set menu totalling $1500 TWD for the table or about $7 AUD each.
Boiled prawns. Served with a ginger sauce. These were OK .. just regular plain prawns.
Stir fried clams, these weren’t bad, although there were a whole bunch of unopened ones remaining, which questioned the quality of the ones that were open and which we ate.
A stir fried pork dish with a lot of ginger. I picked around the ginger and this wasn’t bad flavour wise, although the pork was a little tough with the rind still attached.
Pork and tofu. Nothing much to report here.
Eggs and onion. Sort of like a wet, loose omelette.
Stir fried greens. Cooked simply with garlic.
Steamed fish. This was a small butterflied fish steamed with soy sauce. Not bad, although a little overcooked.
Formosan Naruwan Hotel, Taitung, Taiwan
With not a lot of choices near the hotel again, it was decided to have dinner at the Chinese restaurant in the hotel. It was another share in the middle deal which included some different dishes. The total share was just under $500 TWD each ($16 AUD).
I forget the type of beef this was supposed to be, but it was fried with cabbage and some sour sauce. It was hot and sour, not bad, but not the most tasty dish I’ve had.
Stir fried chilli chicken. This was similar to the one a couple of nights ago, but I don’t think it was deep fried prior.
Tea smoked duck. It was served with a salt and pepper mix but wasn’t very smokey. The bones were very brittle and the meat was dry.
Stir fried vegetables. It turns out to be very crunchy oong choy.
Steamed cod with some crispy bean topping. This wasn’t bad, the cod was nice and firm and the crispy toppings were nice.
Smoked pig trotters with garlic sauce. More rawish garlic and not much smoke on this thinly sliced pork.
Cupcakes from 7-Eleven, Taiwan
These cupcakes cost $40 TWD and was a pack of 5 small milk cupcake. These were light, fluffy and eaten in less than 5 minutes flat. Will have to look for these again in the next 7-Eleven we pass.
