East Coast - A total washout...
The day started off with breakfast. Here I had a light breakfast, 4 pieces of toast, butter and strawberry jam, and a danish. After breakfast, we hopped onto the MRT and headed towards Bedok, where we were to catch a cab to East Coast.
When we got to Bedok, we had troubles finding a taxi from the MRT station. We finally found a taxi stand where Ants had a go at a local for cutting the queue (it was later revealed by Ag that she was rightfully in position). Another local then approached the "queue cutter", asking to let a blind lady jump the queue to catch a taxi first. Since she agreed, she said that she would allow us to go first as she had given up her position for the blind lady.
When a taxi finally arrived, we initially tried to give back the taxi to the local. However, since another taxi had arrived by then, and the first taxi was starting to drive away, we hopped in. The next series of events is what Ants dubs as karma. The taxi driver did not know where Maccas in East Cost Park was, so he dropped us off at the food village. This food village was a good 20 minute brisk walk to our designated meet point. The weather too was warm and humid. After we past the new cable water ski path and Long Beach restaurant, we finally made it to our meet point.
At McDs, I had a quick drink and a McChicken top up. I also used the time to apply sunscreen.
After McDs, we walked outside and noticed the clouds were getting a bit dark. We were tossing up whether to do a bike ride / skate or to go bowling. It was decided that we should do the outdoors stuff first before it started raining. We then hired bikes / skates (except Gary and Ag, who brought their own from Perth), and proceeded to head out. Chee Kiong, who had run 18kms that morning, was tired and stayed behind.
After about 20 - 30 mins, the wind picked up and it was evident that the rain was coming soon. We were determined to make it to the bridge so we pushed on with our bikes and skates. However, our determination was not enough and the rain started to come down before we reached our destination. We then quickly found the next bungalow and sought shelter from the rain. After a good 5 - 10 minutes, it was thought that the rain was easing slightly (and we needed to get back as we had only rented the bikes / skates for an hour), so we turned around and headed back.
The rain started to really belt down with thick rain drops, and all of us got saturated on the way back. Even though Ag and Gary had umbrellas, the rain was coming slightly sideways and they got wet too. After returning the bikes and skates, Chee Kiong bought us some towels, which we used. We ended up drying ourselves in an alleyway, the guys wringing out their shirts and shorts. After drying out a little, we hit the foodcourt next to Maccas, where I had: a chicken curry puff, chicken burger and a milo (kopi tiam style - condensed milk)
Afterwards, we trecked for about 20 - 30 minutes, under Chee Kiong's direction, through a heap appointment buildings to East Coast Plaza. Here we stopped off at The Coffee Bean, where I had a hot chocolate.
We then decided to head back to the hotel. Here we parted ways with Chee Kiong as he was taking a different bus to us. We took a bus back to Raffles Place MRT and caught a train with an interchange back to the hotel. After a refreshing shower and dry clothes, we gathered to go to Bishan.
At the food court up the top, I decided to go for hor fun. It wasn't too bad the 'burnt' flavour was there, but the seafood extender didn't make it too authentic. We then split up for 2 hours to do some shopping. I didn't get too much, 2 cds and a great massage from the Osim Massage chairs. Afterwards, we had sweets at Swensens where Claire and I shared a banana crumble.
