After meeting up with the others, the morning started off with trying to find a place for breakfast. We eventually ended up at Times Square, where there was a Toast Box. Whilst the others were leaning towards the chicken curry and rice we used to get in Singapore, I opted for a soupy breakfast with spiced pork and a fried egg. I asked for the macaroni version but ended up with the noodle version after a miscommunication. I also had a Milo dinosaur as well.
This was actually pretty decent, although with the noodles, it reminded me of some posh version of instant noodles. The Hong Kong version of Toast Box also sells a ham version which could be similar to Mum’s macaroni soup, so I might try that one if we ever end up here again. The pork was tender enough and the broth was salty and tasty enough to drink entirely.
Afterwards, we headed towards the Zoo and Botanic Gardens by catching the bus. It winded up the HK hills and made for some hairy moments between the double decker bus and other pedestrians and cars. After awhile, we got off one stop too late and had to walk back up a steep hill. The HK Zoo wasn’t really that big but it was after midday before we headed to find a place for lunch. After a lot of walking (to find a shopping centre which had some cheap-ish food), we came across a place called Can-teen.
For lunch I asked for a soy sauce chicken and rice. I got a mix of chicken and duck. Oh well, I didn’t complain. The chicken was good, especially with the ginger/garlic/spring onion accompaniment, and the duck was equally as good. I washed it down with a Schweppes Ginger Beer. This cost $44 HKD, so just over $7 AUD.
After lunch, we stopped at the local Starbucks where I had a vanilla latte.
Next was going up to The Peak of HK for some good views. The line to get on the tram was stupidly long, but we noticed that if one purchased a Maddam Tussauds package, they could jump the queue. Since we intended to go to see the wax sculptures anyway, we were happy to escape the long line.
Maddam Tussauds was stupidly busy, and the layout wasn’t the best. The statues were zig zagged around the area, and with that many people packed in, people were getting in each others way and photo shots. Still, there were some funny shots.
After finishing Maddam Tussauds, we came across a Haagendaaz. I had a one scoop Macadamia Nut icecream. This was cheaper than Singapore and just as good. After killing a little time, we then headed up to The Peak’s Skyview platform, which gave 360 degree views of the area. Again, more photos were taken before we decided upon dinner. Up at The Peak, there is a restaurant called Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory. This was based on Bubba from Forest Gump. For a drink, I had a 7-up, although others had more exotic drinks (see the background on the next pic)
For starters, CB and I shared the ‘Run Across America’ platter. Effectively it was a plate of fried, apart from the boiled prawns. This was a combinated of “chilled shrimp, fried shrimp, spicy chicken strips, hush pups, popcorn shrimp and vegetables”. I saw no veg. The only decent things were the chicken strips and the popcorn shrimp. The chilled prawns had the middle vein taken out but the shell was still on.
I decided to grab the “Shrimper’s Heaven” which consisted of “coconut shrimp, chilly shrimp, fried shrimp, tempura shrimp, fries and dipping sauces”. This wasn’t that good at all, and I should’ve gone for the ribs instead. The coleslaw wasn’t that good and the rest of the food was not that good.
Overall not the best dining experience, and my meal alone was the cost of last nights meal for all. Haha, oh well. Too bad we got suckered into the movie connection.

The miscommunication at Toastbox was between Hollow Legs and Mum - and not with the staff ;)
