The day started off with a light breakfast from the local bakery and Starbucks. I had a custard bun and egg tart along with a grande caramel machiato. There was a good amount of custard in both tart and bun and after mixing in the caramel, the coffee was just about right.
After coffee, we had a quick run through Li Yuen Street market and the IFC mall. After 11AM passed, we headed towards City Hall to have dim sum lunch at Maxim’s Palace. We arrived shortly after and were seated easily. We had the following items:
Pork spare ribs (pai gwat). These were fatty and delicious.
Chicken feet (phoenix claws). These were good, not too salty and deliciously tender.
Some beef and vegie rice roll.
Sticky rice. These had a little salted duck egg and the texture was softer and nicer than the ones back in Perth.
A deep fried salted chicken. This was served with lemon and salt/five spice. Note the chicken head in the centre of the plate. The chicken skin was crispy and the meat was moist all over. The underside of the chicken was salted liberally.
Some other vegetable dumplings.
Mango pudding. This also had mandarin or something similar in it. This wasn’t too bad but I’ve had better mango style puddings before.
Sago. This was OK but I’m used to a rockmelon version.
After lunch, we walked to the mid level escalators, where a series of escalators and travelators take pedestrians from the central CBD area to the mid yuppie levels. After we got up to the top, we didn’t feel like walking down all the stairs, so we walked around until we found a bus stop. Afterwards, we shopped at Queensgate for a little while before heading off to the Golden Computer Centre.
After a short (but slow) perusal of the local market and the computer goods, everyone wanted a break and the nearest spot was the local McDonalds. I took the opportunity to try HK’s version of the McSpicy, and went for the McSpicy Deluxe.
The burger consists of a spicy chicken thigh patty, tomato, coleslaw and bacon. This burger was smaller than the Singaporean version but was decent enough. I do prefer the Singaporean version though. After the pitstop, we decided to head back towards Times Square in Causeway Bay. Not feeling like shopping though, it was decided to have an early dinner. We went back to More and More restaurant, and ordered the following things:
Roasted goose and pork belly. Goose is similar to duck, although a bit meatier and probably slightly gamier.
Vegetable and seafood “claypot”.
Steamed carp. The fish was tasty with its spring onion, ginger and soy sauce dressing.
