The morning started off with a light breakfast before heading to the ferry to head to Macau. I bought a couple of things from a bakery down at Lockheart Street.
I ended up with a pork cutlet sandwich half, with an egg sandwich other half. These were OK, nothing too special, but filled the void.
I also ended up with this chocolate custard cone thingy. It was like an eclair, but the pastry was more bready rather than like choux pastry.
We then headed toward the Macau ferry terminal, and proceeded to board the ferry. The ride was a little bumpy, and after not feeling too good, I ralphed about 4 or 5 times before we got to the other side. After getting through immigration, it was decided to hire a driver for 5 or so hours. For lunch, we asked said driver about a place for Portuguese food and he took us to a restaurant and preordered a Portuguese chicken dish for us.
The Portuguese chicken dish was actually an African chicken on the menu. It looked like a braised dish and was served in a coconutty and spicy chilli sauce. This dish was pretty good and tasty, although not what I expected.
A serving of chips (french fries). We also had a serve of rice to mop up the African chicken sauces.
Baked Portuguese fish. I’m not sure how baked it was, the fish looked like it had been deep fried before it was put into a garlicky sauce.
Portuguese baked vegetables. Again, not too sure how much of this was baked. It was effectively a curry vegetable dish.
Afterwards we headed around Macau and looked at some of the sites, including Macau Tower, various temples, statues and the Venetian casino. Afterwards, we got dropped off at St Paul’s ruins, where we had a look around and through the shopping lanes.
Many of the shops were selling these Portuguese egg tarts. They are similar to the Cantonese egg tarts, except there is burnt sugar on top. Nonetheless, the egg tart was very tasty.
After a little more shopping and a short break at Starbucks, we then headed back to Hong Kong. The ride was much smoother than earlier but the motion of the waves once the ferry had docked was making me sick. After getting off I wasn’t feeling too well but managed to keep myself from chucking.
We ended up at one of the local eateries just down the road from the hotel. I ended up with some beef brisket noodles.
This dish was OK. The brisket was a mix of some meat and some tendons. The beef is cooked in a broth similar to a beef that Mum does. It was served with egg wonton noodles. This dish was $26 HKD (just over $3 AUD).
