Old Chang Kee, United Square
The morning started early with me grabbing a quick breaky from OCK. Today's breakfast was porridge, along with a Chicken and Mushroom-O and warm soy bean. The puff was OK, but not as tasty as either curry or sardine puffs.
I ate my breakfast quickly at the hotel before going downstairs to get picked up for our Malacca day trip. The first leg of our trip involved clearing immigration, two stops, one each for Singapore and Malaysia. We had a quick tour of a pewter factory and then experienced a 2.5 hour road trip before stopping for lunch.
Hotel Equatorial, Malacca The lunch on this tour was a buffet. I can't remember all dishes, but I had:
Char kway teow, mussel with mornay sauce, lamb chop, mustard chicken, a steamed cantonese fish and a beef curry of some sort. All of these were good, but I especially liked the fish.
Curry chicken and rice, more fish, char kway teow and beef curry.
Coffee and vanilla icecream. The coffee icecream was icy. The vanilla icecream was like choc chip.
Jaffa cheesecake, cream puffs, chocolate eclairs, a cheesecake and a chocolate cake. The puffs and eclairs were pretty similar.
Apple crumble, custard and icecream. Mmmmm.
After lunch, we had a quick tour around Malacca, including a Chinese temple, a quick shop through Jonker street, and a visit to the ruins of an old church. We then headed back towards Singapore.
Newton Circus, Newton The bus dropped us off at Newton so we grabbed dinner here.
This lime juice ($2) was not the most sour I've had, but it wasn't bad.
Instead of oong choy, CB and I shared a plate of kai lan. This was boiled and served with oyster sauuce and fried shallots. Simple and delish.
BBQ Stingray. I had one piece, CB had the other. The piece I had was entirely flesh and no skin/bone. Not too hot and thoroughly enjoyed.
Still a bit peckish, I went for some chicken wings, which were cooked over charcoal. Taste wise, these weren't heavily marinated/spiced. But a quick squeeze of lime and sour chilli sauce helped perk up the flavour. They weren't bad, and were quite cheap at $1.20 a drum/wing.
