Starbucks, Old Chang Kee, Mcdonalds, United Square

The morning started off slightly earlier as our cousin CK was meeting CB, Wagg and I to pick up some parts from the west side of Singapore. CB and I headed off to United Square at 8:30.

I had a cafe latte, soy bean, Sausage McMuffin, hashbrown and 2 Curry-Os. The McMuffin was a prize from McDonald's Monopoly competition, and I asked to have egg put on, but they couldn't do it.

Afterwards, we met up with CK, where we picked up my ABS sensor, and then drove around the west side of the island for a bit. We then headed back to Toa Payoh to meet up with Arnee-ah and Carley-ah for dim sum lunch.

FortunATE Dim Sum at Toa Payoh

Situated near the library was this dim sum place. There were quite a few empty tables and we managed to be seated immediately. We then proceeded to get the following dishes put on our table:

14112009131
Deep fried mushrooms with salted duck eggs. The duck egg taste was quite strong and rich. Whilst I did enjoy it, I wouldn't want too much of it, otherwise I'd feel sick.

14112009132
Pancakes with Peking Duck. These had a lot of hoisin sauce in it, so were mega sweet. I didn't taste a lot of the duck in this.

14112009133
Carrot Cake. I assume it was white carrot cake, fried into an omelette kind of deal. It was tasty enough.

14112009134
Char siu chee chong fun. Standard dim sum fare, although I normally opt for the prawn version.

14112009135
Prawn dumpling.

14112009136
Prawn and mango. Not very strong on the mango front but was OK I guess to eat.

14112009137
Egg tarts. The pastry on these was nice and crumbly.

14112009138
Wontons I think. I didn't have any of these...

14112009139
Prawn or crab balls with shiitake mushrooms. Not bad, although hard to split one between two.

14112009140
Chicken feet. A bit different to the normal black bean variety like we get at home, but still tasty nonetheless.

Afterwards, we headed to Khatib MRT station and visited my aunt and cousins. Here we got to try my aunts yam cake, which contained mushrooms and topped with deep fried cabbage. The cabbage looked like onion and had similar flavours to onion and garlic.

After a few hours, we took the 858 bus to Changi Airport to meet up with LWA. Before his plane touched down, we headed to Starbucks (I didn't get a coffee) and then Popeyes for a quick snack.

Instead of grabbing a meal with chips, biscuit and drink, I took the option of 'chicken only'. I ate this whilst walking back to the arrival hall. It was quite greasy, but was a good snack to tide me over till later.

After we collected LWA, we took the MRT back to the hotel. Here, we waited till he checked in, and then headed off to Newton Circus.

Stall at Newton Circus

Not feeling like the obligatory stingray or satay, I walked around the stalls trying to find horfun. I eventually found a stall, with 'A' grade cleanliness to boot. The sugar cane was $1.50 and the noodles cost $5. The noodles, whilst tasty, did not have any wok hei, so I was a little disappointed.
