Old Chang Kee and Starbucks, United SquareThe day started off with a trip to Starbucks and OCK. I bought a Curry-O, Sotong Wings (squid) and a chicken wing. From Starbucks, I had a mocha frappa. The mocha was OK, but didn't seem to have a lot of coffee in it.
We then headed to Khatib to attend my cousin Alex's tea ceremony. Being younger, I had to give tea to the newly wedded couple and received red packets, whilst my siblings had to give red packets. Score! After the ceremony, lunch was served.
The food served was vegetarian, with dishes which resemble meat dishes. I tried a number of the dishes, my favourite being the beef rendang. The "beef" felt like very slow braised, melt in the mouth beef. The fried rice was quite nice, with a subtle smokey flavour. The prawns were edible but not like prawns at all both in taste and texture. I feel that dishes which are heavily spiced and do not rely on simple flavours and the texture of the meat are best suited to the vegetarian treatment. I ended up having 1 full plate and 2 half plates of various bits, with a mango pudding to finish it off, and was satisfied at the end of it.
Afterwards, we headed off to Northpoint (Yishun) to do a little shopping. I ended up buying a belt (I forgot mine) for $15 and 2 bobbleheads. Wagg noticed someone with a Chococone, so I went and had one myself at this McDonalds. Not sure why other stores have stopped selling these...
We then did a quick run around Square2, which is next to Velocity Mall at Novena, but this shopping centre was not very good.
After resting at the hotel and getting ready to go to the reception, we caught a taxi to Hotel Furama. Drinks and nibblies were served before we were all seated for a banquet. Being from the grooms side, we were served vegetarian food. The courses were as follows:
