HK Singapore 2011 Holiday Day 09

The day started off with taking dirty clothes to the local laundromat. It wasn’t open yet so we ended up having breakfast at Toastbox, which was the closest eatery which was open.

20032011636 For a drink, I decided to try the Horlicks Dinosaur, which was similar to the Milo one I had earlier, but with Horlicks instead. With all the Horlicks dissolved in the water, this had a weird viscosity, and I liked the Milo one a lot better.

20032011637I went for the luncheon meat macaroni this time round. This was OK, I ended up chopping up the meat and eggs with my cutlery.

After breakfast, the laundromat was still closed, but across the road was another. I ended up with 9lb of washing costing me $43 HKD to wash (or just under $6 AUD). We then headed to Central to catch a bus to Stanley Market.

We walked around Stanley Markets for awhile before coming across a little alfresco string of diners near the water. One of them had a lunch special with a free drink for $130 HKD, so I went for an American Hamburger along with a Carlsberg beer.

20032011638Here is my half pint of Carlsberg. I forgot to take a picture of my burger though cos I was hungry. The burger was tasty, although difficult to eat cos it was so thick. It had tomato, lettuce, onion and the beef patty. The chips that accompanied the burger were hot and crispy, and after some salt, pepper and tomato sauce were very tasty.

After a little while longer at Stanley Markets, we decided to head back. We stopped off near the hotel and then picked up the laundry and had a short break in the hotel. When the break was over, we headed out for dinner. Dinner was recommended by The Travelling Hungryboy, one of his favourite joints in HK was located in Wan Chai. Without a name, we found the address and decided to give it a try.

20032011639I went for the beef horfun. It consisted off rice noodles, bean sprouts, onions, beef and spring onions. There was a little wok hei, but with three of this dish cooked at the same time, it wasn’t as smokey as other single serve dishes I’ve smelled at other places. But coupled with some chilli oil, this went down well, with a runny nose nonetheless.

After dinner, we went for a little stroll, looking at a few shops along the way. The little street shop that sells the egg waffles had turned into a watch stall this evening, so I had a mango cheesecake instead from the local bakery.

20032011640 The cheesecake was a gelatin based one, but it was pretty good. The cake wasn’t so sweet and the biscuit base was nice and soft.

No Starbucks New York cheesecake for me this time :(

I was too focused on a Swensen's coit tower! :)
